De motor van deze repica is eigenlijk een

een variant van de Merlin.
Deze variant werd vooral in Engelse tanks en andere rupsvoertuigen gebruikt,
maar het geluid klopt wel aardig...

Spitfire engine startles Somerset school children

World War Two history has been brought to life in the most dramatic way at a Somerset school.

Children at Bishop Henderson primary school in Taunton were met with quite a sight, when a restored Spitfire was brought in to help them learn about the war.

YOUNGSTERS at a Taunton primary school had an unusual visitor this week – a Spitfire.

The plane arrived in the playground at Bishop Henderson Primary School for a visit organised by Year 6 pupils as part of their studies on Remembrance and World War 2.

It was made possible by owner Graham Adlam, whose wife Claire is a teacher at the school.

Head teacher Ed Gregory said: “Everyone at the school is extremely grateful to Graham for bringing in the Spitfire and creating a day that our pupils will remember forever.

The plane, which is reconstructed with 50 per cent original parts, is the only full-scale static replica in the world of fighter ace Johnnie Johnson’s Mk IX Spitfire EN 398.

Het is dus deze replica:
