In memoriam: Paul Daw

Post by Bennie »

Shocking news reached me yesterday as I sent Paul an e-mail tot congratulate him on his belated birthday (December 3rd).
His wife Anne responded nearly instantly, sharing the horrific news that Paul died in a plane crash on May 30th (see Scramble 458 page 66).

Paul, an Australian pilot and aviation enthousiast, flew for KLM Cityhopper as a captain on both Saab 340 and Fokker in the 90s.
He shared several of his airside images in Scramble magazine during his 'Dutch' period. Many will remember his grey beard and big smile from the time he and his family lived in Hoofddorp.

For family reasons, Paul moved back to Australia early 2000 and got a position as a flying operations inspector (Fokker specialist) for the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
At 65 years of age, Paul was ready for an active retirement with lots of aviation ' side-kicks'.
I'll always remember Paul as a very friendly, very professional colleague. I find it unbelievable that HIS life ended in a plane crash.... Tragedy.

Farewell my friend!
