Virgin Atlantic will replace its Boeing 747 fleet with Airbus A350-1000s.

Virgin Atlantic has ordered 12 Airbus A350-1000s,
with the first due to be delivered in late summer and three more by the end of the year.

Virgin Atlantic currently has eight 747-400 in its fleet.
The company owns only three of them. The remaining five jumbo jets are leased, they are between 18 and 23 years old.

As Virgin Atlantic unveiled its beautiful new A350-1000s earlier this week, it also announced retirement plans for its 747-400 fleet.

Speaking to reporters outside a glistening new A350,
Virgin Atlantic CEO Shai Weiss stated that Virgin Atlantic would begin to retire its fleet of 747s now.
By 2021, all eight remaining 747s will be retired.
