Wiesbaden 75yrs Airlift Berlin - 10 June

Post by Buccaneer S.2B »

Good afternoon,

Wiesbaden wil have an open house to honour 75 years of Airlift Berlin.
This will take place Monday the 10th of June, gates open 09.30 & flying programm starts at 10 AM.
All participating oldtimers wil Sunday the 9th drop para's at 1 PM in Nornandy, would it be logic to assume
the participating aircraft will fly Sunday late afternoon/early evening to Wiesbaden?
Is there anybody who can confirm (or deny) this?

thanks in advance,
wkr.,
Remco

According another topic:

"That's what has been under discussion in this topic for a while already. Paradrop of 1400 paras on June 9 at St Mere-Eglise/La Fière, aircraft possibly/probably operating out of Cherbourg."

Furthermore see

There's a lot of droppings going on around the 6th of June in that area, but the biggest indeed at La Fière on the 9th.. The "Daks to Normandy" will have a drop on the 5th of June as well, somewhere close to Caen. And several smaller drops by other means at several locations and on several occasions in the broader Normandy-area... Not much activity going on at the 6th itself due to the official programme with high ranking international guests. Most of Normandy will be closed down for that...

But that's another topic... Conclusion for Wiesbaden might well be correct.

Found at Flugzeugforum:

"Laut persönlicher Info eines Wiesbadner Organisationsmitgliedes sieht die momentane Planung vor, dass die teilnehmenden Flugzeuge am 9. Juni aus der Normandie kommend zwischen 17:00 und 18:00 Uhr in Wiesbaden eintreffen und landen."

You have to buy tickets to enter the base. Also, roads around the base are closed off for public. In the area several parkings, from where shuttle busses provide transportation to the airbase

Seen Monday: 17 "Dakota's" (all marks), 4 Harvards (two German, two Swiss), 1 AH-64E, 1 UH-60, 1 C-12U and 1 UC-35A. I have not yet got around to make a full log, hope to this evening. I did not log the two Blackhawks in the hangar.
