The owner of the helicopter contacted the Coast Guard
about 45 minutes after the aircraft was due back from a tour of Kauai's Na Pali Coast on Thursday evening,
a Coast Guard statement said.

The Eurocopter AS350 helicopter took off from the town of Lihue,
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said Friday.

Hawaii tour helicopter wreckage found on Kauai Island

Rescuers have found the wreckage of a helicopter carrying a pilot and six tourists
that went missing during a trip to the Hawaiian island of Kauai, authorities said.

The rescue services were looking for possible survivors of the crash.

The wreckage of a tour helicopter that went missing Thursday while on a tour of Kauai’s Na Pali Coast
has been found in a mountainous region of the island.

There were seven people, including two children, onboard the chopper when it went down.
Authorities fear there were no survivors in the crash,
sources confirmed.

On Friday afternoon, Kauai Mayor Derek Kawakami said information on the search is still trickling in.

The chopper was located in Kokee, about 13 miles north of Hanapepe.
On board were a pilot and six passengers.

The FAA said the helicopter that went down was a Eurocopter AS350 B2.
The agency said it will work with the NTSB to investigate the crash of the crash.

The aircraft belongs to Safari Helicopters, a tour helicopter company based in Lihue.
Company officials declined to comment on the situation.
