During a morning on the Oirschotse Heide, GLV-V came this CH-47D Chinook along for some brown out exercises.
This concerned the RNLAF D-663 which is also known as the Blizzard. The D-663 was christened "Blizzard" after the
harsh winter of 1996, which was referred to by the American media as the Blizzard of 96. In this winter, the D-663
was forgotten to be placed in a hangar, so that the plane was partly snowed in. hit. The D-663 turned out not to
have been damaged by this action, but from now on it was known as the "Blizzard". It is a tradition in the 298 Squadron
to name the Chinook helicopters after events which happened with the helicopters.
