F-84F P-172 is no more

Post by Fred »

Ex KLu F-84F Thunderstreak P-172 was ground into bits only recently. A long-time resident of the Luchtmacht Technische School (LETS) round the corner from Deelen, it moved to the Fokker School after the LETS closure. In August 2017 P-172 was trucked to Deelen, still with the LETS badge on the fin. The Air Force staff is of the opinion that now that every relevant air base that used to fly the F-84F has one as well as one in the Nationaal Militair Museum, no other F-84Fs should remain. Only the fin and rudder do remain; they were presented to the Museum Deelen.

Always sad when an aircraft is scrapped, but
no other F-84Fs should remain
I hope this is not the exact reasoning for it.... :?

This is very sad news. She was by far the best preserved F-84F. Serviceable till the end....

She only lacked an engine.

There is a stay in the execution, sorry: scrapping, of P-172. Concerted efforts by the National Military Museum, who want the aircraft for their outside display, Museum Deelen, editors of the historical aviation magazine Vleugels and scores of others have managed to delay the scrapping of the Streak. The post announcing the scrapping on the Facebook page of the Museum Deelen quickly went viral. The Museum, who have been presented the fin of P-172, are prepared to return the part to make it a complete aircraft.
