S-64 Skycrane Italy

Post by Buccaneer S.2B »

Good morning,

A question: are the Italian S-64 Skycranes (still) based at the airfield of Lucca/Tassignano?

Depends, I've seen them there in the past. The maintenance company supporting is based at Lucca. But the S-64s are mainly based at the following locations:
Summer: Biella–Cerrione, Lamezia Terme, Napels-Capodichino, Salerno-Pontecagnano, Reggio Calabria, Sigonella.
Napels seems to be the main base for summer operations (2 detached).
Winter: Brescia Montichiari and Cuneo Levaldigi for the winter campains.
Main base during winter seems to be Rome Ciampino (two seen in December)

I was at Lucca a couple of years ago in the summer, but didn't see any of them outside. Perhaps inside for maintenance, but their presence is not guaranteed.
Cheers,
Gideon
