Question W&R (East)Germany

Post by Buccaneer S.2B »

Good afternoon,

Planning a trip to the Northern part of (East)Germany I was wondering if the items listed below can be seen from outside:

Stralsund Marinemuseum, the Mill 8
Peenemünde, the IL-28
Peenemünde, the Mi8, Mi14, Br1150
Torgelow, the Su22

Hi Remco,

Have you checked Eurodemobbed? They have coördinates and photos of most aircraft, which helps. And obviously also EMOOS has coördinates, so with Google Earth you can often see or guess whether aircraft can be seen and from which exact location.
In your case:
-Stralsund Mi-8 is not visible from outside (as posted in my log of last year).
-Peenemünde Il-28: very difficult to see, but doable
-Peenemünde Mi-8 etc: not from outside. Years ago we asked and finally got permission to go there, ask at the race court from memory.
-Torgelow: yes, this is visible. This I figured out beforehand with help of Google Erath for example.

HI Patrick,

Yes, ofcourse I did check all the coördinates with help of Google Earth. :D , that's how I always plan my trips.
But for these locations I had my doubts, hence the question.
Thanks for your response, very usefull and appreciated !

One more question raised: the two CH-53 fuselages at Seedorf (NI), can they be seen from outside? Need one of them......

I never tried, but looking at GM they're in a parking lot at the northern end of the barracks, just west of the football pitch, and MIGHT be visible from the fence there...

On a different note: last time I was at Seedorf it still housed a Dutch tank regiment instead of German paratroopers...

Always going forward... still can't find reverse!

I can help you here as well: both can be seen if you walk along the fence for a little bit (we did this as well last year).
