With the official arrival of the Lockheed Martin F-35, Volkel Air Base now has two squadrons with two jet fighter types. The 312 squadron flying the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon and the 313 squadron flying the Lockheed-Martin F-35A Lightning II. For the next two years, the 312 squadron will keep on flying the F-16. Later they will convert to the F-35 as well after the retirement of their F-16s. The Dutch Ministry of Defense recently revealed plans to accelerate the purchase of six more F-35As to reach a total of 52 aircraft for the RNLAF. In this video the first F-35 operations are shown at Volkel Air Base. Flights consist daily at the moment of one or two planes per wave, but this number will increase as more planes will be delivered in a short notice.
