Croatia Airlines will replace its Airbus A319/A320 fleet with the smaller A220 between now and 2026. The airline has ordered six factory new aircraft, which are not only a lot more economical in use, but also better match the demand for seats.
Croatia's national airline currently has a modest fleet, consisting of five Airbus A319s and an A320 for European flights and six Bombardier Q400s for shorter routes.
The A319s and the only A320 will now leave the fleet. They are on average about 23 years old. Once upon a time, the idea was to purchase the A320neo, but that order was never fulfilled.
Airbus has achieved considerable success with the smallest member of the range since the acquisition of Bombardier's CSeries programme and the conversion of that type to A220. There are now orders for more than 760 copies in the books. Within Europe, Air France, airBaltic and SWISS fly with the A220. ITA Airways has also ordered the type.
