Today, Thursday, 16 February 2020 at 14.15,
Norsaq took off from Kangerlussuaq for the last time after over 20 years of service with Air Greenland.
This marks the end of a chapter in the company's aviation history with the A330-200, Norsaq.
The almost 25-year-old Norsaq replaced Greenland's Boeing 757 "Kunuunnguaq" in 2002
when it flew the very first flight for Air Greenland on 11 November 2002.
Before that, it had served almost four years in the Sabena, the Belgian national airline at the time.
Despite its "advanced" age, Norsaq is in very good condition,
as the hundreds of thousands of passengers it has carried can attest.
But as we all know, everything has to come to an end.
As it is both expensive and difficult to obtain spare parts for Norsaq to maintain the aircraft,
the decision to find a new aircraft was obvious.
The choice fell on the A330neo, "Tuukkaq".
As a farewell salute to Norsaq, its last flight was marked in Copenhagen before it flew to Kangerlussuaq.
On this occasion, the crew was offered bubbly and chocolate,
while all who passed Kangerlussuaq were offered coffee and cake.
Air Greenland says goodbye to a "mature lady",
as Chief Pilot Michael Madsen called Norsaq when marking 20 years of flying with Air Greenland on 11 November 2022.
Air Greenland's CEO, Jacob Nitter Sorensen,
also has a special relationship with the mature lady,
which he put into words in a social media update. It goes like this:
"Airplanes are like people.
Some live quiet lives while others become famous. Most live ordinary lives, while a few stand out from the crowd with their amazing personality and skills. Today we say goodbye to a well-known and extraordinary aircraft as we send our reliable A330-200 on a final flight for Air Greenland.
Norsaq has truly been a great aircraft for Air Greenland and Greenland. Cherished by crew and passengers alike, Norsaq will be missed but the memories of the last 20 years of faithful and trouble-free service will live on."
Norsaq has many achievements and here are some of the milestones:
β On 04 May 2017 we celebrated Norsaq reaching 10,000 takeoffs/landings.
β On 30 June 2022, we celebrated Norsaq reaching 40,000 flight hours with Air Greenland.
β On November 11, we celebrated Norsaq's 20th anniversary from the first passenger flight with Air Greenland.

The last flight of OYGRN took place the other day. From now on the new A330-800Neo is taking over.
