No new retro airliners in old livery ... :|
Aeroflot is celebrating with Soviet-style flights
The Russian national airline turns 100 this year.
Aeroflot takes this as an opportunity to revive its Soviet past.

03/10/23 - 5:11

At first it doesn't sound very exciting.
«17. March: Subscription of shares of the Russian Volunteer Air Fleet Company - Dobrolet is open.»

But on this day in 1923 the history of what is now the Russian state airline Aeroflot began in what was then the Soviet Union.

Shadows over the 100th birthday

The year of the 100th anniversary is not a good one.

The war of aggression launched by Russia against Ukraine last year
and the subsequent Western sanctions have cost the airline a large part of its international business.

The airline no longer gets new aircraft and spare parts from the West.

Nevertheless, the airline wants to celebrate its 100th birthday.

According to information from the Telegram channel Aviatorshchina,
Aeroflot will also operate Soviet-style flights.

Among other things, the Airbus A320-200
with the registration number RA-73753 and the baptismal name Dobrolet will be used.

For years it has sported a retro livery inspired by the Tupolev Tu-104 that Aeroflot used from the mid-1950s.

Avant-garde comes into play

The destinations of the flights are said to include Saint Petersburg (from 1924 to 1991 Leningrad), Nizhny Novgorod (from 1932 to 1990 Gorky), Sochi and Vladivostok. Among other things, an anniversary logo is to adorn the headrests of the seats. Cabin crews will also wear retro uniforms from different eras.

Aeroflot itself announced last week
that it will be presenting special in-flight menus related to the history of the airline to mark its 100th anniversary.

"The presentation and serving of the dishes reflect the popular artistic movement of the early 20th century - the avant-garde," writes Aeroflot.
