Imperial County (KIPL/IPL) 2023 - MIL

Post by Piet Luijken »

On our way to Yuma we stopped here to see if there was any transit traffic at 2000lt. The ramp was empty.
We turned around and stopped to refuel close by. That was a good thing because two MV-22 were landing.
We scrambled back to the airport to the spot north of the tower (32.835104, -115.572720). Two Venoms and two Seahawks were also landing and refuelling.

With the tripod installed, some good night shots could be made. Excellent!

While in the area we made two hit and runs, which did not disappoint.

18oct23
At 0945-1000lt present after nightstop were CH-53E 161259/YW-21, 164779/YK-779 and 162004/YK-04.
Maintainers were arriving to service the aircraft but we decided to drive off to Yuma.

20oct23
Arriving at 2100lt a Lakota was just departing, not pinging on adsb.
However the FBO crew were still around, fuel trucks parked outside so we waited with LS29 still visible on adsb.
At 2115lt MH-60S 167869/SA-27 landed for refuel then departed.
As the fuel truck was parked in the shelter for the night, and crew departed home, we left as well.
