Sudan, apr. 2023 - civil war erupts - air assets involved

Post by Glidepath »

in Sudan (north), a civil war has erupted during the last few days.
air assets involved, such as Fast Jet / Fighers seen buzzing low level whilst firring. (videos on networks),
helos also involved acc. to reports.
Khartum Int. Airport attacked by RSF troops. + Air base(s) seem to have been taken over by RSF troops.
Unclear who is who, The good, the bad and the worst. dozens of civvie casualties / deaths reported already.

Sudan (north) has a fleet of Mig-29S/E, Su-25 and Su-24

RSF is a domestic org.

Sat. imagery shows at least 12 aircraft have been burned out on a single apron of Al-Khartum IAP by yesterday, including mil. transports. Some (2) of these might have been in storage, being parked off this (north-western) apron. Other a/c and or helicopters may have been damaged by any sort of means.
At anyone time some 90 a/c & helos are at this IAP.

"evacuation of forgeign individuals is could take place soon from now."
These are people coming from a large variety of nations.

glidepath: "How the bloody brotherly struggle for power is evolving in Sudan and how secure this (air lift ?, mil and civil?) EVAC-operation(s) will be is unclear, and so is as from where in Sudan these will be executed." As said, the IAP and a/c have been targeted succesfully.

noteworthy is that a S. Korean AF transport (C130) did a evac-flight yesterday. (no clear yet where it landed though)
The US forces took some 100 people out with 3 CH-47 Chinook. Others took the sea route.
Foreigners might, as was said shortlky beforehand, very well escape by road (under guard or not), then be driven to the port, than by ship to Jeddah (Saudi Arab.) and be flown home or elsewhere from there.

France has agreed, when on scene, to take both French and Belgian nationals out.

Fighting still continues in the Sudanese capital, unclear how intense. Local populous in dire straits.

likely more A400 from LW in ME theatre by now and / or underway

LW A400M : at least three were mentioned, which matches my earlier calculus.
one or more landed at Khartum. (but not per sé at the IAP).
First A400 back in Berlin in the middle of the night (LT), 24-4-2223

Many more evac-flights have been carried out and more are being planned in the short run by a score of nations.
Shan't mention all, would be boring ;-)

Meanwhile, the combatting parties are still actively trying to hurt oneanother.

Tuesday 25 april, Sudanese air strikes at Um Dorman. Not 100% clear who is bombing who.
Luftwaffe about done and wrapping up, Brits still busy with evac.

Domestic Battle continues but Glidepath signing off :byebye:
