LOG and REQ Hoogeveen

Post by patrick dirksen »

Hi all,

Work led me to Hoogeveen today, and of course I used the opportunity to visit the airfield while I was nearby. And I was lucky, since the Cornell was doing some test flying in bright sunshine, so I was finally able to photograph this rather unique warbird outside in the sun. The hangars of the Barnstormers were both open, and this is what was seen inside or in front of them:

LB323 Taylorcraft Plus D PH-AOP, no mks
"T9354" Tiger Moth N935NL, no mks (ex FAF NL935)
FV154 Cornell 2 N58799, no mks, "Boy's Dream"
44-79709/43-B L-4H N29EG
45-4809 L-4J N3989B, no mks
42-14847 L-5 N255DB, no mks, "Pas Op"
PH-ZCR L-21B (ex R-175)
D-ECCI Sk.15 (ex SweAF 5069)
D-EEGD P.149D LeKG 41 mks, c/n 315 (ex 92+18)
Parked in front of the tower was L-4J 45-5060/15-C (N1227N), presumably visiting from Seppe. I think I asked this before, but still don't know the answer: which unit used code 15-x during WW II?

The hangar of Egmond Aircraft Maintenance (or ATN) was closed unfortunatley. Inside and visible through the windows were two frames, which could have been L-4s but also something else. Somebody who happens to know which ones these are? Possibly L-5 42-99252/D-ELKO was one of them, as that wasn't present in the hangars at the airfield anymore.
Cheers,

Your question triggered me, and I tried to find info on it.
The closest I came was the (Dutch) article about the 45-5060, found here: https://www.aironline.nl/weblog/2021/02 ... l-2-van-2/
It states that the plane got its original US Army registration back, and research showed that the code could be 15-A, B or C. The plane flew in the Pacific theather, and based on the article VMO-2 and VMO-4 are possible candidates.

Hi Krazy,

Indeed I found that same article as well. It's annoying the definitve answer can't be found (yet).... I have a copy of an old L-4 book which shows all the codes used in the European theatre during WW II, but not from other areas unfortunately.
Many thanks for trying!! Hopefully it triggers someone else again ;-)
