Besides the Airshow at Langley AFB we visited some base close to it, before flying to Texas for some more spotting. Unfortunately the weather really sucks over there which made the trip not that what I expected in advance.
This included even a real Tornado warning, and not the plane!
Nevertheless we had a great time and did catch all we can.

Weather was terrible when we arrived at 07:00. Around 09:00 it became better and 1 wave went out. After 1 hour they all returned and rain started again.This resulted in the end of flying around 10:15. To bad for such a nice place.

After the flying stopped at Randolph we decided to move on to the nearby Lackland / Kelly Field annex. Glad it was dry over here, but still grey.
ALC always has nice visitors in maintenance. The 2 Mexicans were absolutely another highlight this trip and came for the international school (IAAFA) The based F-16’s were parked on the visitors ramp close to the ALC, probably maintenance at their own ramp as it looks empty. Many preserved aircraft were noted near the gate of Lackland but not noted.
Non of the based aircraft were flying, and heavy rain came in around 13:300. Time to go further North, looking for some sunshine.

The next morning we tried our luck at Dyess AFB. The amount of B-1’s is going down fast as we saw only 11.
A nice number of C-130’s was present but they were already losing their serials. Really bad for our hobby…
Unless the weather became very good after a grey start, there was no flying activity (again). So we changed our plans another time.

After a 2,5 hour drive we arrived in great weather at Sheppard AFB. Bad luck again. Landings from the North which make it tricky to both types.
Sheppard has 3 runways and the 38’s use runway 15R. This resulted as they came overhead long final they turned in very short (just like the speedway at Nellis) Very challenging conditions, but great with the sun in the back. By the end of the day we moved to 15L for some T-6’s which were less present than their T-38 brothers.
After a good meal we went to bed with bright skies full of stars.

Altus is not that far from Sheppard but after arriving here to weather cleared up and we finally got blue skies. Flying was real good with multiple C-17’s and KC-135R’s in the circuit.
The new KC-46A didn’t move at all. On big frustration: AETC is also starting to lose their serials and markings. At least 2 x KC-135R were noted clean, of which one was read on the data block.
We left by the end of the day for some W&R on route.

Spotting a Vance is great. Full ramps to read and a lot of flying. Blue skies whole day long, which was very welcome on our final full day.
The centre runway was out of use. With landings from the North again all T-38’s and T-1’s taxied very close by in front of us, while standing on a perfect sand hill.

Next stop was the small civilian field of Enid. In the past I found some VN birds here and also this time we had a full ramp.
Access to the ramp was quick arranged and made it the perfect finishing touch of the day. The UH-1 was new near the entrance and the old warbird is in one of the hangers.

On our way back to Dallas for our flight home we passed Meacham. Normally good for some T-6’s but this time very empty.
Our W&R guys were quite excited about the 2 museums on this airport. I only noted down the ones of my interest, there were some more but to “old” for me.
I preferred JRB Fort Worth but I wasn’t lucky..
Happy enough I was lucky with the E-3 coming overhead inbound my preferred destination. This one used to be ZZ.
