Smart Lynx rescues their Airbus A330 from Ukraine
A civilian plane has been flown out of Ukraine for only the fourth time
since the Russian war of aggression began.
And for the first time it is a long-haul aircraft - an Airbus A330 from Smart Lynx.
War has been raging in Ukraine since the start of the Russian attack in February 2022.
Tens of thousands of people have already fallen victim to it, including civilians.
Recently, the capital Kyiv has repeatedly been the target of Russian rocket and drone attacks.
This is also a concern for airlines that still have planes in the country.
Smart Lynx has now responded.
The Maltese subsidiary of the Latvian wet lease and charter airline has evacuated a plane from Ukraine that was stranded there.
The Airbus A330-300 with the registration number 9H-SME left Lviv on Thursday morning (June 1),
as first reported by the Ukrainian portal Avia News .
To Poland and then France
The cockpit staff left the transponder switched off on the first part of the route – for safety reasons.
As soon as the almost 15-year-old long-haul jet entered Polish airspace,
its route became visible again to flight tracking services. The flight went to Warsaw, where the Airbus A330 landed at 7:16 am.
Shortly before 11 a.m., the Smart Lynx jet flew on to Chateauroux Airport in France,
which currently serves as a cargo, charter and training airport and where several maintenance companies are based.
Smart Lynx's A330 was chartered for cargo by Ukrainian airline Windrose before the Russian invasion.
On January 23, 2022 he landed in Lviv and couldn't get away from there because the airspace was closed a day later.
Three civilian airmen previously flown out
According to Avia News, a special permit was required for the current evacuation flight.
The A330 rescue was only the fourth known evacuation of a civilian airliner from Ukraine -
and the first of a long-haul airliner.
Windrose flew an ATR 72 out of Lviv as early as April 2022,
and Wizz an Airbus A320 in September .

Smart Lynx's Airbus A330-300 was delivered to China Southern Airlines in September 2008.
It still belongs to the leasing company CDB Aviation,
which is based in Dublin but is an offshoot of China's state-owned China Development Bank.
