FlyDubai, a sister airline of Emirates, has ordered thirty Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. The low-cost carrier wants to open new routes and increase capacity on existing scheduled flights. Until now, the company has only flown Boeing 737s.
According to CEO Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the arrival of the Dreamliners should strengthen Dubai's position as an aviation hub. In addition, the FlyDubai type offers the opportunity to "broaden its horizons". With that, the sheikh alludes to the start of flights to distant destinations. The Boeing 787-9, which is used by KLM, among others, can cover distances of more than 14,000 kilometres.
FlyDubai currently operates 79 Boeing 737s, with 137 more on order.
