Eindhoven runway repairs

Post by Daniel Ravenswaay »

This morning on the Dutch radio I heard Eindhoven will close for about six months due to runway repairs/improvements. Does anyone know when this will be? Haven't seen or read anything about it, but feel free to close/move this topic if it's old news...

The RNethAF, which owns all of the Airbase (Eindhoven Airport is just a tenant), has asked for companies to come forward if they're interested. Then a selection process will take place in which up to six companies can offer their estimates. So don't expect works to start before 2025. Works include a full rebuild of the runway (last renovation was in 2016), including the addition of hard shoulders, a new taxitrack to the east of the runway (so that runway crossings can be minimised), the addition of a new cat 3 ILS (so that less flights will need to be canceled because of visibility issues) and the addition of a new arresting system (cable) that can handle the higher weight of the F-35. Also, talk has been about a new tower but that was not (yet) mentioned in the newspaper report.

Sources close to local newspaper Eindhovens Dagblad and the RNethAF now mention 2027 as the year in which the temporary closure is expected.
