The Air Force cancels the big show at the 11th hour
Today at 11 a.m

Only five weeks before the big air show, they choose to cancel it.
More than 100,000 Danes have been looking forward to the large-scale Danish Air Show, which will take place on 9 June at Aalborg Airport.
Or at least that was the plan.
Because at the 11th hour, Armed Forces have chosen to cancel this year's Air Show, which was a huge hit,
the last time it was held in Aalborg in 2018.
Here, over 130,000 guests turned up at Aalborg Airport,
which created an hour-long traffic chaos,
where motorists did not move out of the stain for hours.
Therefore it is cancelled
The reason is both simple and paradoxical:
There is simply no money in the coffers to hold the Air Show,
even though the politicians talk almost daily about a three-digit billion injection into the Defence.
- After all, we are primarily focused on operating our employees,
and then we are in the process of building up to a new settlement.
So looking at the overall picture,
we have chosen to say that it makes very good sense to push the show to 2025, explains the press officer.
It might be difficult if you sit at home and hear that billions are to be invested in the Armed Forces,
and then suddenly there is no money to hold a show that you have worked on and that you have held before.
What is the explanation for that?
- I completely agree that you have the image that we are on our way to receiving these funds.
But we have a reality of barracks, airfields and more that are worn out and that costs some resources.
After all, holding the Air Show is not our first priority, explains Morten Valentin.
Pride at stake
However, the Air Show will not be canceled completely, but will instead be postponed until 15 June 2025.
- We hope that the product we can deliver in 2025 will be worth waiting for.
You have to remember that it is also our own pride that is somewhat at stake here.
After all, we think we have a fantastic workplace, which we look forward to showing off.
This is what all the employees also look forward to.
Now it will just be in 2025 instead of 2024, points out Morten Valentin.
Are we absolutely sure that there will be an air show for next year?
- Now you can't say anything with certainty. Not in our world either, says the press officer and continues:
- It is the case that the primary thing we have to solve are tasks with an airplane,
and it may well happen that we have to stand somewhere in the world.
It's an uncertain situation we're in right now,
but basically that's what we're planning for.
Billions await
The Danish Air Show is Denmark's largest air event,
where Danish transport aircraft,
helicopters and combat aircraft
make a tactical demonstration,
and both Danish and foreign military aircraft are displayed on the ground and in the air.
The cancellation of the Danish Air Show this year due to a lack of finances
comes at the same time that a broad majority in the Folketing
has landed a historic defense agreement to grant the Defense approximately DKK 200 billion over the next ten years.
But the Armed Forces - including Aalborg Airport -
are currently subject to a savings requirement from the latest defense settlement.
Therefore, millions are being found in the budgets to meet the savings requirement.
