Tanagra (LGTG) 2024

Post by simongrigor »

Tanagra, 9th April
Seen mid-morning last Tuesday:

Air Base:

Rafale EGs: 416, 419

There are now 16 Mirage 2000s in open store, in two groups of eight. 212 and 232 were read off. Others would be readable in haze-free conditions and we were given 201, 211, 213, 215, 216, 217, 218, 219, 220, 233, 237, 242 and 243 as serials of 13 of the remaining 14.

Hellenic Aerospace:

CL-415s: 2039 (this is a bit odd as databases say it's been w/o), 2052

5 x C-130 are now in open store, engineless.

Sure about 741? As it was seen active at Elefsis also?

I read it as 741 today too! We also saw 741 (with a yellow fin tip stripe!) at Elefsis.

741 at Tanagra is actually 744. I read it again on Thursday and part of the last '4' is very faded which makes it look like a '1'.

Did anybody read off the preserved Mirage F.1 at the western gate?

Thanks, 211 and 243 are however converted to M2000-5 (and received s/n 511 and 543), so I believe an error.

I'm slowly working through my logs:

The Mirage 2000s appear to be stored in two groups, one containing 6 and the other containing 10 as follows:

217, 219, 231, 232, 233 and 242 in group 1 and...

201, 202, 210 TBC (I too read this as 211 but I suspect that the last digit is fading, hence the misread by a few people!), 212, 213, 215, 216, 218, 220 and 237 in group 2.

We made a quick stop at Tanagra on April 16th.

Besides the already mentioned stored Mirage 2000's and C-130's we noted the follwoing:

Mirage 2000-5BG 508, 331 Mira Arr. 16:39hrs
F-16C 503, 343 Mira at HAI
F-4E (AUP) 01510, stored at HAI, ''60 years 338 Mira tail''
F-4E (AUP) ......., stored at HAI
ERJ145 ...…, all white c/s at HAI
ERJ145 ....., all white c/s at HAI
C-130B 723, stored at HAI, camo c/s

Any information about both ERJ's and the serial of the Phantom is much appreciated.

We logged the following around HAI
156827 Dump not read A-7E with 156833, 156851, 157480, 157481, 159496, 158829.
152181 Dumped P-3A with 151366 & 151389
159935 Dumped A-7H with 160617
160060/60 Dumped T-2E with 160061/61
300 Stored C-130B/H with 303, 743, 744 (read as 741) & 746 all grey
723 Stored C-130B camo
77-01743 Stored F-4E with your 72-01510 ''60 years 338 Mira tail'' (these had not moved since 2022!)
35+51 Dumped RF-4E with 35+53 & 35+82
The ERJs are similarly presumed to be the same two (civil) examples from '22
On base, Mirage 508 was also flying on the 8th (with 549).

Noted here on 19th June were CL-215s 1045 & 1069 on the Hellenic Aerospace ramp along with the usual suspects (just too late arriving to read a helicopter (AS332?) being pushed into the hangar).
Rafale DGs 441 & 442 were active. The wfu Mirage 2000s are now on two hardstandings of 10 & 7 aircraft with a gia/bdr fuselage nearby, none read.
The special colours Mirage F-1 at the western gate was confirmed as 129.
On the Eastern side at 38.341620, 23.571171 are an F-102 (61024) and another Mirage partially visible from the "old train station" area, which from Google Earth (oh dear) appears to be a partially dismembered M2000, dare I suggest 228 due to it's state (rather than as Tom suggests with the slightly healthier relics)?

Quick reply to this post following a trip out to Greece for AFW 2024. The stored Mirages were in two groups, one group nearest to the Skycrane contained the following 6 x aircraft: 217, 219, 231, 232, 233 & 242. The second group contained 9 x aircraft as follows: 201, 202, 212, 213, 215, 216, 218, 220 & 237.

226 is now preserved in the line opposite the Officers Mess building. There appeared to be a single M2K in amongst the group of F1CGs on the Northside and this may be 228.

Regards, Tom
