Hungary and Italy will do QRA over Croatia

Post by Levente »

Until the Croatian pilots master the Rafale, Hungarian and Italian fighter planes will take over the protection of Croatian skies. The MIGs go into a well-deserved retirement because of this.

Croatia could soon see Hungarian and Italian fighter planes in the sky. Because until the Croatian pilots master the Rafales - on which they are now flying - our airspace will be monitored and protected by our first neighbors.

Dnevnik Nova TV is the first to learn that the agreement has been officially signed. With the arrival of foreigners, the MIGs will be retired.

"We are nearing the end of negotiations and agreements, a lot of regulations need to be changed at the level of neighboring countries, Croatia and NATO. Everything is going in parallel and I would say that we are close to the beginning of the implementation of the agreement. Everything should be agreed by the end of the year," he said. brigadier and deputy commander of HRZ Željko Ninić.

The agreement was signed last month on behalf of the Ministry of Defense by air force commanders, but away from television cameras. They did not inform the public about this, even though exactly this type of airspace surveillance has been under negotiation for years.

"All that we are doing today with our fighters and our operational center will continue. Only Croatian fighter jets will not take off in response to an alert issued by NATO, but neighboring member countries will do so with their planes," he explained. is Ninic.

Hungarian Gripens will take over the northern and continental part of the country, while Italian Eurofighters will be on duty in the Adriatic. The MIGs that the state is now counting on - they are counting their last weeks. Just like the pilots flying on them.

From Sunday, December 1, 2024, Air Policing, the peacetime task of monitoring and protecting the airspace, will be temporarily (until the end of 2025, i.e. the beginning of 2026) performed from the air bases of the neighboring allied countries of Italy and Hungary, by Italian Eurofighters and Hungarian Gripens .

The Republic of Croatia will not have the cost, i.e. this service is free of charge. Other NATO members also temporarily entrusted their allies with the training of their Air Policing pilots, i.e. the formation of a duty combat duo.

The Ministry of Defense has already reported that the Rafales protect the sovereignty of the Croatian airspace, but temporarily do not form a duty fighter duo so as not to affect the intensity and conduct of pilot training.

After the bilateral agreements (Technical Arrangement) were signed at the level of the armed forces, they were signed by the commanders of the air forces on behalf of the ministries of defense, as we reported earlier, their application begins on December 1.

Until the application of those agreements, the duty fighter duo was formed by MiG-21 planes. As of Sunday, December 1, the MiG-21 will no longer be in the system of that duty, that is, it will not perform Air Policing.
