Rolling shutter Canon R5

Post by skyxeurope »

I'm looking for a new body. I now have the Canon R7, which has a slow read out speed of 31 ms. A Canon R5 has a read out speed of 15.5 ms. If you use the electronic shutter, the rolling shutter of the R7 is clearly visible when you photograph the rotors of a helicopter. The Canon R5 has a faster read out speed, the rolling shutter is visible when using the electronic shutter. Canon R5 M2 is even faster but even more expensive, which is why I am looking for the limit of what is acceptable for me.

Who has examples of the use of the electronic shutter when photographing helicopters?

How fast should the read out speed be?

you will need to use 1st curtain electronic - the only camera with a true non-rolling shutter would have to be one with a Global Shutter, which I think only Sony has so far on a single camera --- in a couple of years all cameras will have a global shutter

Stacked sensors are faster (as you say R7 is very slow and not stacked, I personally I would not recommend it, I was very glad to get rid of mine)

R5ii I've only seen rolling shutter when panning, and it's slight, but i can see it, so I switch to 1st curtain electronic with certain backgrounds - I've not noticed anything shooting helicopters

you can find some sensor speed charts using a google search
