Sigonella (LICZ/NSY) - 2008

Post by Trabanti »

Hi,

according to Scramble USN/USMC overview, there are no active duty units stationed at Sigonella at the moment (apart from a baseflight). Has the MH-53 unit been relocated/de-activated? How about the COD detachement with C-2's, still present with 2 planes?

Thanks in advance for your information.

Regards,

Bart

HC-4 left Sigonella in 2006.

The rest I can't help you with.

The only American based plane there is the baseflight's C-26. C-2's will only be based if there's a carrier around in the med, but you could expect some USN P-3's on deployment. And don't forget the Italian 41st stormo with their Atlantics (or is it Atlantiques?).

Thanks guys!

The answer is even on wikipedia I now see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HC-4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They're back to mainland USA, too bad (still better than disbandment though...).

One of the Sigonella C-26Ds(900530) was recorded on a Canadian SBS site last week,so maybe thses are also going back?.

This airplane has since been recorded in German airspace,first for long while on 20 October 2008.Maybe it has been away on overhaul.

Any recent USAF A-10 stopovers at Sigonella? Or made Bagram Hogs only stopovers at Al Udeid AB, Qatar, and Lajes?

Such a pity - it is a superb base for military visitors.
