Spotting conditions at Colmenar Viejo (Spain)

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me how the spotting conditions are at Colmenar Viejo?? Which places give the best overview and from where is it possible to take pictures from outside the fence?

Every little bit of help is welcome.

Best regards, Rob.

Hi Rob,
We didn't find the field very easy because of wrong discription in the AIM.
You can spot very well at Colmenar Viejo as long if you're not afraid of the bulls.
If the helicopters are taking off the wright way you can take very nice pics, but remember you're in spain.

Hello Rob,

I assume you are coming from Madrid. You have to pass the main gate, and when the gate ends, there is a dusty parking lot. From there you have to follow the fence, and eventually you'll see the platform on your right side. We used some large rocks and trees to stay out of sight.

with regards,

Michel

Hi,

Last week I was @ Colmenar Viejo. A really nice airfield and easy to spot from the above mentioned spot.
We stand very close to the fence (see photo forum for pictures). The security passed several times, but they didn't get attention about our stay there the whole day.

Watch out for the bulls they like your camera bags as well

Then also some noted during saturday the 11th:
CH-47's

HT17-04/ET-404
HT17-06/ET-406
HT-17-07/ET-407

AS532UL
HT27-04/ET-652

UH-1H

plus the stored stuff....
also noted another Puma/Cougar in front of the CEMAFET hangar.. Anyone?

Hope it helps..

Oops, didn't look at the right place.

Do you happen to know were OH-58 HR.12B-6/ET-115 is preserved?
Scramble DB gives them both preserved at Colmenar Viejo and I logged this one in july 2007!

Thanks and greetings!

And on monday 13-10-2008 we noted this and;

CH-47's
HT.17-05/ET-405, HT.17-10/ET-410, HT.17-18/ET-418

EC-135's
HE.26-02/ET-180, HE.26-04/ET-182

Both EC-135's, CH-47 ET-417 and UH-1 ET-237 were flying.

Request for the AS532 next to the left hangar and for the serials of the preserved and stored helicopters.

Thanks!

We had some mayor problems with the Guardia Civil at this airfield. The nature park north of the field is private terrain, so it is prohibited to go there. We didn't know this and after a hour the Guardia Civil came from all directions and made us delete all our aircraft shots. Luckily we all made some back ups. So for all of you, be aware here!!!

Additions are always welcome.

Best regards, Rob.

It's North of Colmenar village. Follow the M-607 and the the M-625 North then the field is on your right.
Look here 40°41'49.87"N 3°45'49.82"W

Hope this helps
