P3 ORION TOPIC

Post by FALCONCREST »

Amid all the jetnoise and afterburners I'd like to start a topic for a less noisy aircraft :
The P3 Orion

Not that long ago P3's were flying overhead my house inbound Valkenburg.
I really miss them.

So, former Valkenburg spotters (and everybody else): Show the world this beautiful aircraft !

The last night mission with a Dutch P3,flown with a mixed german/dutch crew . Luckily I was able to make this night shot
Image

During their career the Dutch P3's flew a couple of liveries (note the speedtape on the tail )
Image

Valkenburg had plenty of good photo spots

P-3C CUP 308 in a unique configuration: The only time a dutch P3 flew with an external load of dummy weapons
Image

A very very impressive last flypast , the last P3 left Valkenburg for Germany.(note that its flying over the flightline , i think it was not only me being afraid it would hit the deck...)

Enjoy

which c/s are the best? the white or the dark? I'm going to build a kit of the orion in dutch markings. but only have to choose the c/s.

I would say the white. But that's personal based on looks. It's also the color all P-3's were going to be painted in and would be right now if the politicians.... ah well... that's all in the history books.

Talking about history, 2 from my side. Both taken at MVKV in 2005:

(One note: I'm not completely sure that I made the first one myself, it's on my HDD in a map with photos I made with a borrowed camera, but it's a nice picture none the less IMHO).

1. First week of March. 312 on the flightline covered in snow.

2. Portugese P-3 arriving on friday for the farewell Open House.

Hi Roderick
My favourite is the c/s with the 75years MLD c/s.
see the last photo from Ghanz.
As a alternative the first livery. The grey is less attractive to me, but for you easier to make...

and when the KNVOL organises a trip to Nordholz I'll really go through thre! I really like this a/c. and I still remember when I was at the beach of wassenaar and then a dutch orion came over at 500 ft. that was really cool! that happened a lot of times the past years when I was at the beach of wassenaar. really cool! an very nice to remember.
