Whereabouts of Mig 23BN 707 / 20+50 anyone ?

Post by Polleke_NL »

Went to Jan Knijnenburg in Hoek van Holland to see if I could find this Mig 23 but I could not find it anywhere between the huge stags of pallets. According to the Scramble database however this aircraft was last seen there Jun.08.
Do I desperately need to visit Hans Anders, or has it moved ???

:shock:

I can only confirm that the June 2008 note is correct:

Do not know if it currently is still there.

Stefan

According to the photo's, she's no longer on the roof where she used to be but in someone's private garden. There is a bunch of empty pallets stacked behind the wall (planespotters.net), so I assume she is in the neighbour's garden, but I checked all adjecent premises and asked around but nobody could tell anything about it (nor did I see any "kouwebakken" as can be seen underneath the aircraft, perhaps things have changed as there was construction work going on on the house of the neighbours..., it's not at the rear as that is clearly visible from the new road that leads there...

(This Flogger is owned by BMW- and derelict-aircraft-dealer Piet Smedts in Baarlo. So maybe the contract for display at Hoek van Holland ended? It is possible it will be noted at Baarlo or Kessel again in the near future?

Stephan)

Hi Patrick,

These are not unit-markings. It shows that the aircraft was 'great' (Q from Quality): http://www.sh-squadron.de/q.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hello,

The MiG-23 is still in Hoek van Holland but no longer at the Oranjekanaal 89. The whole company is to move to a new location at the Kulkweg. When the new location is finished the aircraft will be on display again (or maybe is already).

As far as I know it's still in the garden next to the former company where it was preserved. It's visible from the road.

On 28 July 2008 it was still parked in the Garden of the house next to the company, the lighthouses and the piles of pallets where on the adjacent (fenced of) area.
The quality is bad, but I took some pictures with my phone. It gives you an idea the way it is parked. It could be seen from public road, but if you did not look for it in the garden of the house, it could be missed easily...

Thanks for the info guys, just one more question;
The house adjacent to the pallet trading company is undergoing some construction and the front garden was very open to see everything in it. Judging from the pics, the aircraft was parked next to the wall between the house and the pallet co., but from what I could figure from the debris in the garden, the little glasshouse was torn down? The yard behind was packed with goods and some containers, but I could not see a garden as I see on the pictures. Not from the front, nor from the road that is under construction at the other side of the premises..
I don't like to be a pain in the *ss, but would it possible to pinpoint the location in Google Earth ?

(and yes, I have to agree: summer evenings are great for W&R spotting!)

Ruud, that is correct (I took the airliners.net picture). Your description sounds as if the bird is gone.

Thanks! Now I see this I do remember hearing something about it once, but I never really understood the thing and forgot about it.

Hi all,

I drove past the garden where the MiG used to be, I can confirm it's gone, and the house and garden are being demolished :roll:

The new location of the company is Kulkweg 40, 3153 XE Hoek van Holland.

I will check this location this weekend, when I have some time.

For those interested, a few kilometers from the old MiG-site, there's a Mil Mi-2 preserved at the roof of a company.
It's located at the "Honderdland" industrial zone in Maasdijk, and can be seen from the A20 motorway.

Regards,

Pim
