Question: S-64 Skycrane at Hermeskeil

Post by Buccaneer S.2B »

Good evening

Preserved at the Hermeskeil museum is the nose section of a Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane. According to several sources it should be the D-9511, c/n 64-003.
However found on the net was:
c/n 64-003, S64A modified to S64E.
Registered as N306Y, D-9511, LA+113, N6960R, PK-OBU, N6960R, C-GJZK, N176AC, C-GJZK.
Also a picture as C-C-GJZK c/n 64-003 , made 02 may 2007 near Sproat Lake Canada was found.
This should mean the cockpit section at Hermeskeil has a different p.i.,
anyone to solve this puzzle ??

Remco

Hi Remco,

Found this at:
http://www.bayerische-flugzeug-historik ... crane.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hm... 64003 is also listed here: http://www.fs.fed.us/fire/aviation/fixe ... b_list.xls" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Can not draw a conclusion but it does make things more interesting...

Greetings,
Stefan

Hello,

This could well be one of the famous c/n plate swappings. This has done before with S-58s and S-61s, where the hulk of an ex military aircraft is still current, while a rebuild flying civil a/c has the same c/n.

Acc to AMCAR N176AC/64-003 was removed to from the US reg as sold to C-GJZK on 06feb01, only a week after 61-002/N6959R was removed from the US Reg (on 30jan01) as scrapped. The N6959R had already crashed on 27jun91. Both were at the time with Erickson Air Crane at Central Point, OR.

In 1997 Erickson Air Crane had N176AC in the US Reg as c/n 64-062, which is ex US Army 64-18457 that had crashed on 29sep79 and was burned out on the ground.

Maybe the C-GJZK is not really c/n 64-003

Regards,

Otger

Good evening all,

Thx for all the replies !
Lars: looking at the story you found regarding the history of the German Skycranes
combined with c/n plate swapping possibility mentioned & information found by W&R, it seems to my humble opninion logic the Hermeskeil cockpit section is indeed c/n 64-003, while the still current C-GJZK must have a different identity.
Thanks anyhow,

regards,
Remco
