Thanks to GRAS / Gijs ten Velde and Panoravia / Rene Liebe we had an excellent base visit at Wittmund 4 March.

Every part of the airfield was visited, except the shelter area. In the morning, around half past eight, eight Phantoms departed to an unknown destination for a detachement (Baltic area TDY for air patrol?)

Highlight of this day, for me, was the sun, did not expect that it would be visible until four o'clock when some clouds came in.

37+92 was the other F-4 that is withdrawn from use

I think that 38+44 also is withdrawn from use, the canopies were as taped as the 37+92 and 37+88.

Excellent log. A couple of questions. Should the F-4E be 75-0632 or was it wearing the incorrect serial of 76-0632?
Was 37+14 definitely active with JG-71 as it was last summer with TSLw-1 at Kaufbeuren as an instructional airframe. I realize that aircraft do get rotated through the instructional areas, so I just want to check the serial was correct for this sighting.

Thanks
Tony

I can't recall where we saw 37+14 or that it was a typo, although it seems to me it is the latter. The F-4E serial was painted over, so it was hard to read the FY, but according to the books, this one should be the 75-0632.

Saw 37+14 at Kaufbeuren lastv year and it was still in the old camouflage c/s. Very hard to believe this is active again; my guess wouild be a typo.
Thanks for the log!

Definitely a typo as we did not saw any F-4 in the old camo. Thanks for pointing out

Noted flying on April 15 were: 3826, 3870, 3722, 3842, 3868, 3848, 3784, 3792 and 3701.

Being towed were: 3857 and 3861.

At lunchtime two French deux milles came in: 102/12-KR and 114/12-KA. Both were later seen departing with 3 F-4Fs.

Also flying was A-4 N268WL.

A really nice day with CAVOK conditions. No security whatsoever seen near spot 5 or anywhere else for that matter.

Does anyone know the former identity of BAE Systems A-4 N268WL ?
on the tail is mentioned s/n 159530 but this doesn't tie up to an IAF serial although the shape of the removed badges do suggest she has been flying for the IAF??

Rumours say that 12 Wittmund (Germany) F-4F's are heading to Cold Lake for Maple Flag on 15 May.

Maple flag will be held from 18 - 29 May.
