Olympus Lens

Post by Maikel van der Heijden »

Hello all,

Just a little question from my side.
I have an Olympus E-500 with a Olympus Digital 40-150 and 14-45mm lens.
Now I am looking for some more mm's, I found (i think) a nice lens for my cam. Maybe some other suggestions?
Budget is not over 400 euros.

I have been informed that Sigma lenses are also compatible with my camera, are there any people with experience with Olympus? (I know not so many people have one  )

Kind regards,
Maikel van der Heijden

I think it's really the only option you've got. I'm not really into the Olympus/Panasonic/Four-Thids-system (I'm a Canon-user), but a little research showed that lens is the only zoomlens in that range in the selected price range.

As said, I have no experience with this system, but I think this lens is a fine one for the more budget-minded photographer. If you're looking for real quality (comparable to Canon's L-range) though, you've got to save some more money and try to get your hands on a 50-200 F2.8-3.5.

Considering your Sigma-question: they do make lenses that fit your camera. Here's a nice overview. Maybe you can also try to get the Sigma 70-200 F2.8, which really is a great lens.

Oh, and I think it's a hard job to find Olympus-users here. As far as I know, most is Canon, Nikon and Sony.

Thanks for you're reply. That is a nice lens only 200mm is not what i am looking for. I found a nice deal with a 2x APO Teleconveter EX voor Minolta/Sony. Pitty it's not for olympus. If that's not going to work i will proprably go for the 70-300 of olympus.

Keep in mind that extenders reduce the maximal aperture (minimal F-value), and that after a while your auto-focus stops working (for Canon, the AF stops above F5.6). Furthermore: extenders also multiply the errors and bad things in a picture. Only use it with really great and sharp lenses ;).

It's going to be the 70-300mm lens because that extender isn't appropriate for my cam. Thanks for you're reply's :)

kijk hier eens

hi,
You can have a look at the Sigma lenses, both 70-200/2.8 and the cheaper 70-300 are available for the Olympus.
The Olympus 70-300 is a rather cheap but in quality not a bad lens at all. I have an 40-150 and a 70-300.

Good luck and show us the results.
