Maybe they should just paint those Cougars black.. Can't imagine the grey has so many advantages that this is worth it..

I doubt Defensie gives anything about spotters being able to read off serials from more than 20 yards off

Actually the grey scheme has many advantages. It is easier to apply than the previous Cougar c/s, keeps the airframe cooler in hot and high conditions and is less conspicuous at the flight levels at which helos operate nowadays during operations (increasing survivability against MANPADS and small calibre fire arms). On the downside are the costs involved when respraying the entire fleet during PDM. US Army SF MH-47/60 are gaining similar color schemes at this moment. Improving the visibility of serial numbers provides gains for operating aircrew and (dis)embarking troops as well during tactical conditions (see last three of serial in white on SFOR/KFOR UH-60s, during ops in Operation Desert Storm, Haiti etc).

So they evaluated it and decided to paint the rest of the fleet. Get your pics of camo Cougars while you still can folks! And I have a hunch the Chinooks will follow too..

Do you have a serial on what Cougar is at Woensdrecht for paint now?

Sorry, I don't have the serial, but I saw the helo standing in the paint hangar at F.S. I'll check the serial next week. After beeing painted at F.S. it will be towed to the other side of the fence for a 15 years inspection.
