Fighter crash at Greek island Serifos long time ago

During a hike at the small Greek island of Serifos (Cyclades) I stumbled upon a load of wreckage of a crashed fighter. The location is roughly 37° 8'53.02"N 24°28'45.38"O and a lot of wreckage is still present, including large parts of the landing gears, some sheetmetal and many engine parts.
On one small part (some actuor or so) I found the inscription "Republic Aircraft". That info, coupled with what looked like a horizontal tailplane makes me think it could well have been an F-84 series aircraft?
I did some googling, but was unable to find any information. Could anyone provide more info?

here some remains of a serial is visible, but I was unable to bend it or read of any number except what looked like a "4"..

Hi Polecat,

The wreck you found at Serifos belongs to an F-84F indeed.
According to the News Papers of that era the accident took place on 03/12/75 when the a/c had suffered a mechanical failur while over flying Serifos Island and the pilot ejected safely, a/c been w/o.
Unfortunately it is not known which a/c was that.
