Hyeres - La Palyvestre (LFTH/TLN) - 2009 MIL

Post by Arjan »

Hi all,

Just returning from this lovely airfield on the southern coast of France. This really is a place you must visit (you can take pictures of a Xingu on the runway with 100mm).
Next to the terminal is a camping "Les Pins Maritimes" and from it's premises you have an excellent view (allthough back lit in the afternoon) view of all activities on the field from just sitting in front of your tent/ caravan / mobil home. Walking out of the gate of the camping you will cross a road and then you are allready on the beach. Sometimes you will see a chopper take off and after walking to the beach you will see it hover above the water for hoist ops (though some distance away). A 400 mm lens will do you good from the camping but mind the heatwaves.
Will update later with some more entries on the Scramble airfield book and the locals.

Preserved at the main gate is a H-34 (182)
Preserved near the main hangars is an Etendard (13)
Preserved across the ramp from the Gendarmerie hangar (I believe and visible from the beach) is an Alize (47, confirmation will be much appreciated)

Still on the firedump are the SA-3210 (04), N262 (1), and unreadable Etendard, Alize and a Lynx with no boom.

Instructional with the EPPE are BR-1050 (22), all grey Etendard 4 (36) and a Super Etendard (25).

In front of the fire station, next to the EPPE is a SA-330 (AZE)

Quick raw log of the visitors for your impression:

24-6 Xingu (74), Atlantique NG (17) and a SA-330 (AZJ)
25-6 Xingu (68), Rafale M (26), AS-555 (AYD) and a Falcon 10MER (185)
27-6 Jetstream RN (XX484, XX475, XX488), departed on 29th, probably allready arrived on the 26th.
29-6 Falcon 10Mer 129, Xingu (87), AS-555 (AYC), SA-330 (BRT)

Cheers,
