New to this way of radio-spotting...

Post by Polleke_NL »

Hi All,

Got my scanner dusted off as I bought it a while ago but never got the hang of using it.

Have 2 questions for you guys;

Does anyone know where I could find a list of all current european military frequencies?
Does anyone know where I could find a list of all current military callsign and their "meaning"?

Not sure if this even exsists but it would certainly make my life a lot easier

thanks in advance !

I believe that the most used Frequencies can be found here on this forum and/or in the airport list provided by scramble.

thanks for the quick reply !
I know they can be found in the "where to go" section, with the airport details, but I was more thinking of a comprehensive overview, a pocket list or alike, to have them all available at a glance..., is that available too? If on scramble, where? As I haven't been able to find it here...

I just updated a lot of frequencylists on this forum. You can also try this website: http://www.milscan.nl/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Henk.

Hello,

I use this site a lot http://www.military-callsigns.eu/Freque ... /index.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; .
You can also download the whole frequency list for Microsoft Acces or Microsoft Word .
That way you can make your own "pocket list" .

For the callsigns .
I have an old frequency book called Goldwave 2006 from the Dutch Mil Research Group .
I am making a copy of this book as a pdf file on my computer .
When I'm done with the callsigns list I would gladly share it here .

Tell me if you're interested, maybe you've got enough with the internet site because it also has a big list with callsigns .
Only not in a printable "pocket list" .

Greetings,

Martijn.

RADIOMONITOR

----------------------

USAF-USNavy-USArmy - Global HF-Radio System
--------------------------------------------

The Data Base consists of about 250 note block and other registers
available to bona fide radiomonitors and aircraft spotters - which
will be airmailed on CD free of charge worldwide, - upon e-mail request.

The information in the Data Base is obtained by:

1) irregular monitoring open public radio frequencies
of non-crypted radio traffic,

2) a Telephone Register covering all American military
bases worldwide, also specifying USAF strategic and tac-
tical airforce formations and their home bases, - with DSN
telephone numbers worldwide - (the courtesy of DISA) -
with Radiomonitor's supplement of Central Command (SW-Asia)
DSN-numbers.

3) Klingenfuss' Guide to Utility Radio Stations,

4) Klingenfuss' Radio Data Code Manual,

5) ICAO - Register of Location Indicators,

6) Lloyd's Maritime Atlas, and other maps and charts

7) Steve A. Douglas: Guide to Military Monitoring

8) Download of publicly available Internet material.

-------------------------o---------------------------------------------------

The Global HF-Radio System is an HF-radio chain used
by US Army, US Air Force and US Navy - and STRATCOM command
headquarters located at Offutt Afb, Omaha, Nebraska.

The radio chain is performing strategic and tactical
radio telephone traffic, as well as radio telephone
traffic between aircraft in the air, - and American staffs
and bases on the ground, - worldwide..

Below freq list includes a few non-Global freqs,
which are regularly used by USAF and USNavy aircraft
when on international commercial air tracks.

VHF and UHF freqs (approach, cp, met, etc) are shown in the
"Location" registers.

Believed to be correct, but not guaranteed.

Messages (high pressure traffic):
==========================================

Category 1 - (EAMs)-Messages of varied number of items from
-------------6 upto more than 100, for category 1
-------------receivers worldwide,

Category 2 - (EAMs)-Messages of actually 28 or 22 items,
-------------(former 30 or 20 items), for category 2 receivers
-------------worldwide,

Category 3 - (EAMs)-Messages of minimum 6 upto varied number
-------------of items, for category 3 receivers worldwide, this seccion
-------------now divided into category 3a and category 3b receivers.

Category 4 - (EAMs)-SKYKING messages of usually 3 items (=1 group),
-------------for determined airborne or ground stations,

Category 5 - Operational Traffic (1)
-------------aircraft observation messages mainly from aircraft to
-------------Croughton Radio, with mostly from 5 upto 12 groups each of 3
-------------items. Evaluation apparently by American staff in the U.K.

Category 6 - Operational Traffic (2)
-------------aircraft-to-home-station messages, informing home station

Main call sign for tactical and for high pressure traffic:

MAINSAIL

Also callsign for high pressure traffic: SKYKING or SKYBIRD

list from 001 upto 999. - Call Sign Registers are available.

Call signs SAM and SPAR = Special Air Missions with high rank military VIP
personnel (dv.s = distinguished visitors) or politicians. Study of SAM and
SPAR call signs and traffics available.

Aircraft with call sign serie 1800-up usually fly special VIP missions more
or less same as SAM and SPAR.

Call signs HILDA GLOBAL, HILDA EAST and HILDA WEST = Scott Afb, Belleville,
Illinois, headquarters of AMC (= Air Mobility Command), which manage mili-
tary transportation missions worldwide. Registers of Locations available.
