Italian Polizia to gain MM-serials again?

Post by Sjoerd »

Hi there,

I've just returned from an excellent trip from Sardegna and the southern France. Whilst at Deci I saw a Polizia AB212 flying by and noted the helo wearing a MM-serial!? Are they introducing the MM-serials again? :uhuh:

Scramble database shows nothing for PS-60, so this might be an update if anyone can figure out the full serial. It looks like MM81643, but I'm looking for confirmation on this.

Thanks,

Wasn't the Polizia di Stato not always wearing military serials due to their tasks (government)?

Hi Ernesto & all,

Not all Italian government agencies wear these MM numbers. E.g. VdiF carries only civil serials next to their codes. The CFS only recently started applying MM's on their latest AB.412's, but the rest of the fleet only carries civil registrations next to their codes.

The Carabinieri, GdiF and Guardia Costiera however all have MM numbers applied. The Polizia was always a bit of a strange branche. They do not wear any civil registrations next to their codes, but only some (far by all a/c!!) are wearing the MM-serials. E.g. the Partenavia Observers and most AB206's and 212's I've seen don't wear any. Also Scramble Database, SMS 2008, Mach III and other serial books don't mention any MM's thusfar (only former identities if originated from a military branche). I however noted that On Dutch Wings is reporting MM81642 in their database as not confirmed for this specific AB212.

So I wondered if this is a new trend (like the CFS) or did no one noted these serials before, which I find rather unlikely as most of these machines are flying around sometime now.

I hope someone can shed a light on this?

MTIA!

New Polizia serials allocations that I know are the following:

MM81642 AB 212AM PS-60
MM81643 A109A II PS-61
MM81644 A109A II PS-62
MM81645 A109A II PS-63
MM81646 A109A II PS-64
MM81647 AB 212AM PS-70
MM81649 AB 212AM PS-81
MM81651 AB 212AM PS-89
MM81654 AB 212AM PS-95
MM81660 AB 212AM PS-103

It was reported some time ago that all services will gain the MM, enclosing Vigili del Fuoco(CF-), Polizia (PS-) and Corpo Forestale dello Stato (CFS-).

Polizia also received P.180 MM62247 PS-B15

Hi Maurizio,

Thanks for clearing that up! :thumb: It does indeed seem that way, hence all new build a/c having received a MM-serial lately (AW.109N PS, AW.139 VF, AB.412EP CFS and indeed, how could I have forgotten about that P.180...having seen it myself).

Saluti,
