REQ: Ronneby+Vaerlose june 1994

Post by erik_kamphuis »

Hi, I have some requests about Ronneby air show (Sweden) and Vaerlose (Danmark) june 1994 and the answers are not in Scramble Showreports:

Ronneby june 11th 1994:
On the dump was a Tp.83 Pembroke, I had serial 83001, now I read an old B.A.R. (British Air Review) and they give serial 83012. Both are/were there at the time????
In the airshow a formation from Angelholm aircraft participated, I thought it were 8 J-35 Drakens and 4 Viggens.
I know serials were given by F10 wing at Angelholm afterwards. I have for the AJS-37 Viggens: 37083/05, 37046/46, 37094/57 and 37067/67. B.A.R. gives SH-37 37901/01 i.s.o. 37083/05.
For the Drakens I have: 35502/03, 35518/11, 35623/23, 35565/34, 35577/38, 35540/40, 35582/43 +1 unkown.
B.A.R. gives 35541/41 and 35620/20 as other serials I did not had!

Can anyone help me on this?

Vaerlose june 12th 1994:
There were 2 RAF Hercules for support for the Red Arrows at the overside, XV184 and XV178. B.A.R. gives XV179 for XV178! What is right?
In the hangar at the overside were 3 T-17 Supporters visible. I had serials T-418/419/423. B.A.R. gives iso T-423 serial T-413.
Hughes 500M H-209 arrived with AS.550 P-254. When we left we saw an other H-500M flying around. B.A.R. gives H-246 as a second serial noted elsewhere on the base. Can this be my 2nd serial?

I hope somebody can help me with both air shows from long ago....

grtz,

Hi Erik,

Found part of my logs of that weekend:

Vaerlose:
The RAF C-130 was XV178.
The SAAB T-17 was T-423.
The second H.500M was H246. Read it off while walking down the flightline.

Angelholm:
The Pembroke at the dump was 83012/88. Unfortenately I cannot help you with the formation of Viggens and Drakens.

Cheers,
Michael

I did see S-35E 35901 at the dump at Ronneby. Mix up with Viggen 37901 by someone perhaps?

Thanks Michael for your answers!

Scramble DB gives for Pembroke 83012/88 as unknown location since 1984, and 83001/78 as being at the dump june '94.
Do you have photoproof of at least the code maybe? I did not photograph that much at the dump, only the S-35E 35901, that is correct! Maybe a mixup by someone for Viggen 37901 (not that interesting I missed that Viggen in '94, as it is now in Lelystad Aviodrome).

cheers,
Erik

I did not take a picture of the Pembroke. It was parked half in the bushes. But I remember it had a faded code on it's tail. Because we were walking on the dump unauthorized I only took a picture of the Draken which looked superb. Hopefully it survived because it' s a rare piece.

Hi all,

I have a slide in my collection of an F13 Viggen marked 68 on the fin. Unfortunately the serial is not visible. As it is armed with A-A missiles I assume it is a JA37. I cannot consult my log as I lost those of 1994 in a computer crash. I must have made it at Ronneby as I didn't visit any other Swedish open day in that year, or in the years preceding or following 1994. Could anyone provide me with proof of the serial from his log?

That's odd...
http://www.scramblemagazine.nl/?option= ... SE&id=2249 does not make any mention of a Viggen from F13 coded 68...

Fred, Hans,
.... does not make any mention of a Viggen from F13 coded 68...

Viggens were recoded quite often when they were transferred from one unit to another. Recoding even occurred within units.
You think F13-68 was a JA model. Any picture is welcome.

I have looked in detail in the database and I have two Viggens which once were coded F13-68.
37328
details:
F13-68 early 1980s;
F17-28 jul1995;
F16-68 may1998;
dismantled oct00 after an accident on the flightline at F16 (still coded F16-68, explosive charges in the cockpit ignited unintended), eventually scrapped feb01 (t/t 2,052.57 hrs, engine removed 06dec00)

37398
F4-68 aug1989;
F13-68 1993 (grey c/s);
F17-28 jun1994/jul1998;
modified to JA37D, date unknown;
F17-08 dec1999 (mod to JA37DI) and jun00/apr01, still at Uppsala 18aug01;
F4-08 sep03/nov04;
reported to have been wfu nov04 (wk48), current whereabouts unknown, most probably scrapped

Hans and Hans,

Thanks for the comments! I remember that I did an extensive self-guided tour that may have brought me to places that other reporters may not have reached, which may explain why 68 was not included in the report. 37398 seems to be the likely candidate given the time frame and colour scheme. I found a reference to 37328 which was in an almost white colour scheme, and my pic is definitely grey. Again, thanks for the response!
