Rotterdam is a small airport. I doubt if it will be financially viable to invest in material to handle An-12s at Rotterdam. The 1 time per year that it might be expected........Backtrack wrote:This is realy sad. A airport which can't accomodate 1 small An12 due to lack of materials? How low can you ga as an airport?
Once upon a time (in the late 1990s)... the Balkan Bulgarian Antonov An-12s could almost be considered "residents" at Rotterdam...adz wrote:Rotterdam is a small airport. Don't be rediculous. The An12 was designed to operate to the most remote and/or worst equiped airports in de USSR. It's a shame that Rotterdam Airport can't accomodate such a "standard" cargo plane which needs only very basic services.adz wrote:Rotterdam is a small airport. An Airport that can't accomodate/serve normal airplanes? pfffffff
well my opion is... in 2007 we also had some AN-12's I believe so it could be. But I don't agree with your simple aircraft, cause a AN-12 need specific things i think basic aircraft discribes more like 737F cause there was a FLYant cargo 737F and it came so and i think those are basic aircraft and AN-12 is more used as a charter aircraft and some airports cannot accomodate that but still Rotterdam is an airport cause they have the basic needs and don't forget ROTTERDAM-THE HAGUE IS NOT A REAL airport for cargo aircraft so don't blame them for not having the right equipment, Schiphol and maastricht are more cargo airports then rotterdam and the last cargo a/c was here on 14-08-2008 as said before the Flyant cargo 737F, that's my opion about itBacktrack wrote:If the (only) handler at Rotterdam airport is not able to load/unload An 12... than the only conclusion could be that the airport is not able to handle this aircraft. Which remains the most rediculous thing i've seen in years.
An airport should be able to provide very basic services to these very basic types of cargo planes. If not than you're not worhty to cary the name "airport" if you can't handle the moste simple airplanes.
Sorry, but I don't agree with you at all!Backtrack wrote:I can understand if AP doesn't invest in materials to load/unload wide-body cargo jets. But i just can't imagine what kind of equipment they lack to load/unload a An12? And if they lack it. You can always hire (for example) a heavy forklift. Come on you're in the Rotterdam area, there are lots of (shipping business-related) companies who offer materials which can be hired on short notice for short-tem rentals.
Nope, it was allowed to operate this flight, no restrictions from the Airport's side.James wrote:Dind't it have anything to do with the curfew into RTM for these type of aircraft?

that is really the reason, there was no equipment availeble at that moment, that's why it divirted to AMS.James wrote:I really wonder what kind of equipment U r missing in Rotterdam to handle an AN12???????
There is no eqpmnt needed besides a vorklift...or in the worst case a lowerdeck loader backwards to the a/c.
