On 27 July, the NAEW&C Program Management Organization (NAPMO) in Brunssum, the Netherlands, announced the signing of a contract with TNT Airways S.A. of Liège, just across the border in Belgium, to provide cargo and passenger service in support of the NATO airborne warning and control system (AWACS) program and operations.
The contract provides NATO with a pre-planned short notice airlift capability no later than 1 January 2012 to transport personnel and equipment.
NAPMO expects the retirement of the NAEW&C Force’s three Boeing 707-300 Transport Cargo Aircraft (TCA) made possible by the contract to yield several million euros in savings in its annual operations and support budget.
TNT Airways S.A. operates a mixed fleet of over 30 aircraft.
