Open-air Aircraft Museum to be Open in Irkutsk in 2011 23.11.2010
Open-air Museum of Aircrafts will be opened in Irkutsk for the 350th anniversary since the city’s foundation to be marked in September, 2011.
The exposition will be based on aircrafts An-24, Il-76, L-39, MiG-29, SU-17, SU-24, SU-27, Tu-22M and helicopters Mi-8 and Mi-24.
All the vessels are written off, with all the armaments removed from them. At first the planes will be displayed for all to see.
Later, after necessary restoration, a modern interactive exposition will be arranged inside of them. Then the visitors will have an opportunity to simulate flights in the aircrafts.
The history of Irkutsk is closely related to the development of aviation. In the early 1930s there was built a factory here that still produces the most advanced aircrafts.
The Irkutsk Higher Military Aviation Engineering Institute, which has trained over 60 thousand experts for air technical services of the Air Forces and other combat arms, was established in the same period.
