A Tribute to N747PA Juan T Trippe

Post by Rene Klok »

The first production B747 was demolished this week in South Korea where it spend it's last years quite sadly as a restaurant. Let's honour this first giant of the skies with a photo thread.

This one's taken at New York JFK in the summer of 1989. It already sported the new billboard style Pan Am titles.

Surely there are more pics around of this ground breaking dinosaur.

Yes you are. Although you can argue which was the first Pan Am B747, it was not the one that crashed in Tenerife:

N747PA FF 11 April 1969, DD 3 October 1970 (the one in South Korea)
N733PA FF 24 October 1969, DD 12 December 1969
N736PA FF 24 December 1969, DD 20 January 1970 (the one that crashed in Tenerife).

So the N747PA was the first one to fly. The N733PA was the first one to be delivered.

Felipe, that was the 11th 747 coming off the assembly line. N747PA was #2 and the first production aircraft. I believe that assembly line numbers and delivery order where not synchronous.

Gerard, to be honest; I wouldn't know. Is it possible to push from underneath the aircraft or does the towbar only fit from the front position?
