Spotting in Arizona and California

Post by nhoenich »

In connection with a business trip to Phoenix in the New Year , I will have a couple of days spare and would appreciate information about the current situation regarding photography/spotting at the following bases:
Luke, ( has anything changed in respect of information on Scramble website?)
Yuma,
El Centro

Many thanks for any help.

Hi Nicholas,

Visited El Centro and Yuma in November and did not note any changes to what is presented on our airfield guides.

Relatively new to this type of jaunt, but I too am there on business in early Feb. Didn't try El Centro ( but see later ) but Luke does regular ramp tours ( 2 a month ) but wasn't doing any 6 weeks prior to their Open House in March ! Yuma seems to do a very limited ramp tour once a month. When asked about outside viewing, both gave the official answer of ' counter to national security etc ,etc '

In practice , talking to 'regulars' who do the US annualy, it would seem if you park up anywhere obvious you will be reported by the local populace and moved on by local police.

Why not come down to San Diego for the USN Centennary on 12th February for the flypast/carriers/ Open House with flying aircraft distributed to El Centro, Miramar, NI ? It appears to be quite a show.
