A JAC Japan Air Commuter de Havilland Dash 8-400, flight 3X-3722 from Amami O Shima to Kagoshima (Japan) with 74 people on board,
had just departed Amami O Shima when the crew selected the gear up, but the gear lever fractured and remained in the captain's hand while the gear retracted properly.
The crew continued the 30 minute flight to Kagoshima, requested emergency services on standby for the arrival, used the alternate gear extension on approach to Kagoshima and performed a safe landing.
The airplane stopped on the runway and was towed to the apron.
The runway was closed for about 10 minutes.
A replacement lever was fitted and the airplane continued its regular schedule.
