The Thai Gripens have arrived

The Royal Thai Air Force received the initial batch of 6 JAS39 Gripen jets at RTAFB Surat Thani when these jets arrived at 19.30 local time(10.30UTC) on the 22nd February.Thses jets will replace the last surviving F-5B and 11 of the RTAF's F-5E jets acquired in the 1970s.

701 Squadron of Wing 7 will be the operating unit.

39401 code 70105
39402 code 70106

JAS39D

39860 code 70101
39861 code 70102
39862 code 70103
39863 code 70104

The RTAF serials have yet to be allocated,but these jets should be the 21st fighter type to enter service and reflecting this the serials should theoretically be,

JAS39D

Kh21k-1/54 code 70101
Kh21k-2/54 code 70102
Kh21k-3/54 code 70103
Kh21k-4/54 code 70104

JAS39C

Kh21-5/54 code 70105
Kh21-6/54 code 70106

The next 6 of these Gripens are due for delivery in 2012.
