CVW-8 tail code AJ on board.

The same Air Wing that was visiting the UK in April 2009 on whatever carrier they were on then.

The usual place to view carriers is in the Solent is Stokes Bay.

From Commander, U.S. 2nd Fleet Public Affairs

NORFOLK (NNS) -- The George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group (GHWB CSG) will depart for its maiden combat deployment May 11.

The strike group, which includes the Navy's newest aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), is scheduled to conduct operations in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility.

This deployment is part of an ongoing rotation of U.S. forces supporting maritime security operations in international waters around the globe. Working with allied and partner maritime forces, GHWB CSG units will focus heavily on maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts which help establish conditions for regional stability.

"The George H.W. Bush Strike Group is ready to go," said Rear Adm. Nora Tyson, commander, GHWB CSG. "These Sailors have worked extremely hard over the last year, and we are fully prepared to execute any and all tasking in support of the nation's Maritime Strategy."

The five ships and eight aircraft squadrons of GHWB CSG consist of approximately 6,000 Sailors who have spent the last year conducting intensive training and certification exercises to establish a safe, cohesive organization capable of performing a wide variety of missions across the globe, ranging from anti-piracy and ground support operations to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

The George H.W. Bush Strike Group is made up of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 2, the Norfolk-based USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 8, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 22 staff, guided-missile cruisers USS Gettysburg (CG 64) based at Naval Station Mayport, Fla., Norfolk-based USS Anzio (CG 68), and Norfolk-based guided-missile destroyers USS Truxtun (DDG 103) and USS Mitscher (DDG 57).

All,

I was fortunate enough to be on board this morning and this was the situation mid-morning.

On top:

102, 103, 104, 105, 106, 107, 110, 111, 112, 113
201, 202, 203, 205, 206, 210, 211, 166638/212, 213, 214
301, 302, 303, 304, 305, 307, 310, 312
400, 401, 402, 403, 404, 406, 407, 410, 411
501, 502, 503, 504
600 cn 20-171
602 cn A52-175
603 cn A52-160
612 cn 703188
613 cn 703195
617 cn 703253
700 cn 703069
701 cn 703071
706 cn 703145
707 cn 703150
712 cn 703171

Hangar deck:

100, 101
201, 204
300, 314
162867/405
500
165299/601
167836/610 cn 703167
167834/611
167847/615 cn 703230

I'm not 100percent certain about the cn of 167836 because it was very dark when I was trying to read the plate! I am 99percent sure it is correct though.

I have only quoted BuNos where there was some uncertainty as to the tie-up.

Regards

Mark
