New Orleans IAP, La MIL 2011

Post by Arjan »

Hi all,

After practicising a simulated attack on the nearby Naval Air Station for tomorrows airshow they left the runway there covered with some debris. Therefore it was decided to divert 5 Hornets into the IAP to gas up. Luck was with me as I drove just underneath the approach lights as these bugs came in so I could catch them at the local GA terminal.
As usual, asking nicely was enough to get permission to go on the ramp to shoot them (pix will follow later), thanks to "Flap" for guiding me;

F-18C 164632/AF03 (blue Flanker c/s), AF10 (centennial bird) VFC 12
F-18A 163113/AF406, 162854/AF413, 162905/AF405 (grey agressor c/s) VFA 204

By the way, the blue Bug carried a drop tank with the name "Ambush" on it. According to the pilot this was the squadrons nickname. I always thought it was "The Flying Omars"...did they change it?

Best regards,
