Summer Holiday Malaysia

Post by GIPS »

Hi All,

This time I spend my summer holiday in Malaysia. Besides the normal sight seeing and time at the beach also some time for Spotting was found.
Unfortunately all my base visits were cancelled because of the Ramadan, so I have to found my luck outside the fence.

This is what we saw:

Image

I really hoped to see this RF-5E and we did saw them at Butterworth AFB

Image

Besides F-5's and F/A-18D's Butterworth also houses a number of Hawks like this one.

Image

The sunlight in the morning was very good as they started flying around 07:00 in the morning.

Image

The dark colour of the Hornets and the sun changing later in the morning make it not better, but still a very nice plane to see.

Image

Still going strong this S.61A and they were see flying at almost every RMAF base like this one at Sungai Besi

Image

We didn't saw any of this rare birds flying...Still don't know or this MD3-160''s are still in service, but they were undergoing maintenance.

Image

Image

Some nice Maritim Malaysia Helicopters from the nearby Subang were training at Sungai Besi

Image

This CN-235 is still were anniversary marks of the 53th independance of Malaysia and is based at Subang

Image

Still one of the beauties of the RMAF are the Mig-29's, I was happy to catch some as they don't fly much nowadays because of defence cuts.

Image

Malaysia is one of the less countries flying the MB-339 besides the AMI. This one was also seen at Kuantan and is from the Tiger Squadron.

Image

At Alor Setar you can find a lot off Red/White PC-7 trainers, which fly very very good.

Hope you like them...........

Happy Spotting in Malaysia

When looking at your photos I am not sure whether you would really have needed those "base accesses" after all...

That RF-5 is indeed very rare! 8)

All these aircraft seems to be in a very good condition.
Or at least they have a clean paint. :D

BTW: Good shooting and thanks for sharing! :respect:

From these pictures I would asume Malaysia is spotters friendly. Can you comment on that? What are your experiances??
Thanks in advance,
Marc

Very nice and rare pictures Gijs. These are the kind of planes we usually only see in Air Forces Monthly but you've been there, seen them and shot them, great!

Nice shots of very rare beauties.

Did you just show up at the fence with camera and telelens? Isn't that very dangerous?

Although the question is posed to Gijs I presume, I can comment on that from my own experience. When visiting Malaysia (and Kuantan in particular) in 2000 photography of landing aircraft was not appeciated at all! If one would like to take pictures, stay well out of sight of the field and other people..
Ofcourse this situation could have changed in the last decade.....
