The official document reads:

Wittmund from 1.660 people down to 730 people "Signifikante Reduzierung" (significant reduction) and "Jagdgeschwader, teile"

Does this mean JBG32 will move to Buchel or that JBG33 will fly the Tornado ECR in the future?? and that the Tornado IDS will be withdrawn by 2013, except for the ones at Schleswig (AG51).

JBG32 will be disbanded. Büchel will keep a Jagdbombergeschwader.

other changes:
Bentlage MTHR15 to be disbanded
Celle HFVAS100 and HFIS100 to be disbanded
Holzdorf HFUS1 to be disbanded
Roth KHR26 to be disbanded

CH-53s transferred to the air force, 60 CH-53s probably split between Laupheim and Holzdorf (CSAR).

Stefan

Wasn't the deal with the helo's that the CH-53's would be transferred to the Luftwaffe, and that the Luftwaffe would lose its new NH90's (HSG64) to the Army (Heeresflieger) as some form of "compensation"?

Yep.

it nows look like 64 CH-53 will join the air force at Laupheim and Holzdorf (CSAR), whereas the 80 NH90s (down from 122) will go to THR10 and 30. The document released today does not mention a lot of unit-designations.

Part of JBG31 is in Kerpen (Kaserne) and this will move to Nörvenich.

How should I read the restructuring of the CH-53 fleet? 64 CH-53's will be part of the Luftwaffe. Will the Heer keep the rest, or will these around 30 CH-53's be decommissioned?
So there are 2 options:

Holzdorf: 64 CH-53's for Luftwaffe
Laupheim: around 30 CH-53's for Heer

or

Holzdorf: 32 CH-53's for Luftwaffe
Laupheim: 32 CH-53's for Luftwaffe
(in this scenario, 32-32 is just an example, it can/will be different of course)

Michel

Hi Michel,

There is talk about reducing the number of CH-53s to 64. Holzdorf is to get 'part' (teil) of a Hubschraubergeschwader. Therefore my guess is that part of the Geschwader at Laupheim will be based at Holzdorf (could be the CSAR element).

Norvenich received a significant investment in infrastructure to usher in the Eurofighter,so closure was unlikely.

According to PR at Holzdorf; Holzdorf will lose all its NH90's, only two will remain at Holzdorf for MedEvac, while the remaining will move to Laupheim. CH-53s will be based at Holzdorf, no idea how many will be involved. The move of the NH90s will be done this winter. No idea when the CH-53s will arrive.
