Question about MiG-21PFM

Post by 11E »

I have a question about former Polish air force MiG-21PFM # 7809. In the scramble database the c/n begins with 94N and according to this site it is 94A (http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/N221GL.html).

Which one is correct, the 94N or 94A? IIRC the 94N was capable/wired for delivering a nuclear weapon. Was the Polish air force trusted by the Soviets to deliver a Soviet nuclear bomb? Or is this # 7809 ''just'' a PFM.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Of the MiG-21PFMs delivered to Poland, aircraft up to batch 71 were type 94A, those in batches 78 and 79 (12 aircraft) were type 94N. The were divided between the three regiments in the 4.DLM (2.PLM at Goleniow, 9.PLM at Debzno, 41.PLM at Malbork) which is odd as I think these regiments were fighter escort units for the mud-movers of 2.DLM-B and 3.DLMB. Also the Czech Air Force received a number of these nuclear wired aircraft.

Regards, Paul
