So, if I understand this right, the MoD suddenly needs 2 BAe.146's for a period of one month only? Interesting.

I would say they mean that the aircraft have to be available within a month after awarding the contract to the best bidder.

Are these the aircraft that will be based at Boscombe down as a replacement for the Bac 1-11's and Andovers?

If they are to augment the existing fleet of 2 BAe 146,then they are likely to be operated by 32(TR)Sqn out of RAF Northolt.

The disposal of ZE702 in the early part of the last decade starts to look stupid, especially as the airplane was sold cheaply.

Just to confirm, the wording means that the aircraft have to be delivered within one month of the award of the contract.
I would think they will be for operation in sunny climes.
As they are being acquired under Urgent Operational Requirement (UOR), I do not think these will be for Boscombe Down.

It will be interesting to see what -if anything- they can drag in... there are not that many QC-versions around (as compared to regular 146's, such as the ones stored by Eurowings/Lufthansa Cityline in Cologne), there is no time to convert them due to the UOR and most of the freighters are tied up elsewhere (say, with TNT).

Still, I suppose they did a market survey of some sort before issuing the UOR.... Did they?

And there you go....

http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articl ... an-366796/
The UK Ministry of Defence plans to buy two used BAe 146s to supplement its air transport activities in Afghanistan, with the pair to be acquired and modified under an urgent operational requirement deal.

First details of the planned purchase emerged in late December, when the MoD issued a contract notification seeking expressions of interest from potential suppliers of two "BAe 146-200 series quick change aircraft".

Sources said the deal could be valued at around £6 million ($9.3 million).

The introduction of the assets could partially fill a looming capability gap caused by the gradual retirement of the Royal Air Force's remaining Lockheed Martin C-130K tactical transports and the delayed introduction of a new fleet of 22 Airbus Military A400Ms.

Two new Bae-146's have apparently been allocated the serials QQ101 (RJ100), and QQ102 (RJ70). But as the contract for the 2 BAe's discussed here, has not been signed yet, it seems the RAF will get 4 of these aircraft. 2 for Boscombe Down/Qinetic, and two to fullfil the abovementioned requirement.

Regards,

Michel
